Sligo’s players are relishing the challenge of pitting their wits against Mayo, according to manager Tony McEntee.

The Yeats County will host the Connacht champions in Marckievicz Park on Saturday (4.30pm) and, having withdrawn from last year’s championship due to Covid-19 issues, they are embracing the prospect of facing their more illustrious neighbours.

Armagh All-Ireland winner McEntee is well aware of Mayo’s strength having served as a selector during Stephen Rochford’s time as manager and he outlined to RTE Sport: “The mood in the camp is actually very good.

“The players are in good form. Most of these players have played between two and four Championship matches in their lifetime with Sligo.

"They are still relatively new to this. This weekend offers the opportunity to play Mayo, a Division 1 team, and the same team we have grown up to love, adore and support.

“Players like Lee Keegan, Paddy Durcan, Aidan O'Shea and Kevin McLoughlin in particular are part of that and now there is the opportunity to play against those players.

“That is something we are really looking forward. As someone famously once said, opportunities pass and don’t pause.”
