A former Minister for Justice has called for a Garda investigation into the melee which erupted after the first of yesterday's All-Ireland SFC quarter-finals finished level after normal time.

Laois-Offaly TD Charlie Flanagan described the incident involving Galway and Armagh players and backroom team members as a "violent confrontation".

A member of the extended Armagh panel could be in hot water after he appeared to eye gouge Galway full forward Damien Comers, while Galway captain Sean Kelly is set to miss the All-Ireland semi-final against Derry on July 9 after he was shown a straight red card along with Armagh's Aidan Nugent.
