Replying To williesboy:  "Quinn has been the most consistent player in longford for the last 2/3 years"
He is not far off, but I'd opt for Gallagher too. Quinn carries the ball into trouble a lot, for county and club, and ends up losing possession at important times when he is trying too hard to grasp a game. He uses the outside of his boot pass far more often than he should when easier more accurate kicks are on. This looks great when it comes off, but it fails just as much as it works. He takes a lot of 45's and rarely scores them. Maybe doesn't seem to have the cleverness in his play which would have put hit right at the top level. This is nit picking, as he is a fantastic player for us all the same and it would be a massive loss for us if he was not there. He has the natural ability and skill, no doubt about that. I think Gallagher pips him as being the better player in the last few years, he might not be as naturally talented, but is a serious worker and accurate as hell.

RIP Dermot McCormack, a powerful midfielder on the pitch in his day with Carrickedmond, a gentle, kind and funny man off the pitch. He will be sadly missed by his family and the GAA community.

Haters will always hate, gloaters will always gloat, both traits are usually displayed by self serving people. The rest try to pull together for the good of friends and neighbours in GAA. The first 2 groups should try it, it's less energy sapping and more rewarding. I have even noted in some winners interviews recently the appreciation and thanks didn't extend much beyond the interviewee. Anyway, narcissism is becoming more common in all aspects across life this millennium, I just hope decency makes a bit of a comeback and wins out and the haters stay away from here, we come here because we like GAA, it is our passion, not our outlet for hate or other unwelcome traits. Best of luck to our champions and representatives Mullinalaghta this weekend, kepp putting in the hard shift and you will do the county proud as always lads. Play hard and play fair.

Replying To iluvspuds:  "Are the provincial club championships being played this year? Did Killoe ever reach a semi in Leinster? I'm fairly sure I remember FMG getting to one in the late 90s but not sure if any other Longford team did until Mullinalaghta?"

Replying To slasher9:  "a lot of confusion here. the format is the top 4 in either group going into quarters and bottom 2 going into relegation semis with 1 going down. what is going on with the 2020 junior championship? have we another fiasco on the cards?"
County Board are rubbing their hands with glee as an opportunity to get one up on Killoe presents itself. Killoe didn't want to play 4 championship games in a week, probably more to do with ongoing celebrations after the senior win. They requested a change saying they cant play Wednesday night, and the CB were only delighted. A number of changes were suggested, which the county board were having none of. Very arrogant of Killoe to think the CB were now afraid of them, presenting an easy victory to them. As for the 2021 Senior Championship, at the time of the draw it was stated the top team in each group qualify for the semi final and 2nd/3rd face each other in a quarter final to meet the group winners. Bottom team in each group play off for relegation.

In most cases clubs don't actually pay fines until after an appeal is heard if there is one. In many cases fines even go unpaid. The nuclear option generally is not thrown at them as a result. This is not like most cases, it's a power struggle and actually nothing much to do with Killoe. Mullinalaghta and Granard are going strong at the minute, not too many would fancy playing either of them after last night.

Replying To Ward30:  "Thank you Mullinlagtha for saving us from the 3 in the row gloats from the most insufferable supporters in the county. Best of luck to Mostrim in the final. From a team that couldn't field a team to a county final is some achievement."
Thís must be a personal grudge, all clubs have this in small amounts, but most supporters are the same and can get carried away when successful. We all think our clubs are the best, and when that is close to the truth, we tend to talk our clubs up rather than down. Some people just hate to see others being successful. I tend to think winners are always deserving, supporters should enjoy that, most do, and most are grateful for the wins. Tha games went nearly exactly as I had thought they might. I wasn't expecting Mostrim to blow away Colmcille so early, they had more than enough done by half time that the mountain was too much for Colmcille to climb. Mostrim are playing excellent football to watch. That won't alway win unfortunately. Mullinalaghta were far stronger than Killoe physically. A few key injuries to Killoe didn't help. Quinn did tend to carry into tackles way too much, and Mullinalaghta done what they had to, stop him. Yellow cards are acceptable, they took the card, conceded the free, and ultimately stopped the attack. Killoe were niave to that, and I don't know how. They knew that was coming but seemed unable to do anything more, it was a case of their race was ran, their time was up. In fairness to them they have been excellent this last decade.

I would have thought Slashers hurlers were impacted by the loss of a Killoe player. Morstrim and slashers also have a number of underage Killoe players involved that will be impacted. Killoe haven't indicated whether they intend appealing or accepting the ruling. I would think they should keep fighting seeing as how it would be a good thing if the DRA conducted their own investigation.

Replying To arcadia:  "Apart from a bunch of assertions being thrown about on here, does anyone actually know for a fact that the Junior Final has been awarded to Colmcille as opposed to a postponement having been agreed with CB and/or with the opposition to a later date for reasons unknown (i assumed player welfare would be the factor, but it could be anything I guess and nobody seems to know on here)? Is there even a problem to be discussed here? If the CB is happy for the clubs to agree a postponement (perhaps to a weekend when more players are more readily available) then this is a nothingburger as the Americans would say."
You are right Arcadia, no decision has been announced properly yet. Killoe told CB last week they could not field a team this Wed and requested a change. On Sunday the CB accepted the Killoe could not field a team tonight and postponed the game. they told Killoe today they would not grant the game change. Killoe seemed to be willing to find other solutions including conceding any of their Intermediate games or fielding a weakened team tonight. No agreement so far. CB will see this as revenge, which says tells you a lot. Maybe Killoe have some blame here but I agree, not all the blame. As was said, Clonguish had no problems when they askied for the semi to be moved.

I think we just haven't got good enough players in the county in good enough numbers. It's that simple. Our best representative's over the last decade are on their way out. Some have even left only to end up coming back simply because they were still way better than the players coming through to replace them. Thinking the likes of Quinn, Gallagher, McGivney, Smyth, Mimnagh, Foy and a couple more. Even past their best, they are still the best around. I would not be surprised to see a few walk away early this year, a lot of effort to put in for a lot of hammerings. We have maybe 2 new players doing well over the last couple of years, Reynolds and Hagan, but realistically we need more than that as our team is starting to age. We have decent players coming through but are maybe 2/3/4 years away yet with some good underage players showing potential for the Mel's and County teams recently. For the interim, we are probably at Div 4 level (maybe a weak Div 3 if we are lucky and playing very well). I think lots of us got carried away with our best team beating a few development teams in the O'Byrne Cup. The worst thing that could happen now is to go through a period where we replace a manager every year through no fault of their own. Give him 3-4 years to build something. He needs it and no manager will win anything instantly with what is available.

Replying To Spinx:  "I'm puzzled as to why people on this forum and Killoe supporters are saying Clonguish are pushing this. Clonguish have no say on the matter......sounds like Killoe are trying to blame it on anything or anyone bar themselves. From what I was told by someone on the inside is that Killoe have been constantly shooting themselves in the foot from the mediation in Cavan to the meeting in Portlaoise. Now they are trying their last resort and have Mickey Quinn come out and question whether he'll play county again. Sounds a bit like blackmail! Killoe always the innocent party."
Can you quote where people on the forum are saying Clonguish are pushing this, I cant find it anywhere. As for supporters, Killoe haven't the monopoly on idiots. There are good people and idiots in every club and parish in the country. On the Mickey Quinn interview, while a bit unnessessary and badly timed, he like a lot others, is surely ****** off but I don't think he'd be told by the club to say that, I'd assume that would be a personal stance. I wouldn't be surprised if others had a similar mindset as that stuff is common in many clubs over the years. But it will have no bearing on the CB's decision as its gone above them long ago. All parties have the statement letter in possession. All resultant issues stem from that, so let's see how the DRA hearing goes.

Replying To jack99:  "From what I hear in Dublin it's now past time for the players in killoe to take control of this situation and call a meeting with the club officials who are keeping them out of football over an u16 game from last year which has never been played. Surely if what I hear is true and they were offered to have the suspension lifted if they dropped all objections and appeals to last year's u16 competition they should have agreed as obviously they have broken the rules and have been punished correctly (by rule book , tough harshly) and as such should have been happy to have suspension lifted. The person I met in the city through my work told me that killoes objections has led to 1 county chairman resignation, one referee coordinator resigning, 1 ccc chairman being effectively sacked as he was not reappointed to any committee for 2020 and 1 referee standing down from reffing. Enough is enough. Killoe players should take control of their club."
As I said before, there is plenty of people prepared to side with the bad eggs and cover up for them, and let them keep Longford football in a mess. More of the same please until another club is next, and sure it won't bother me coz its not my club. Sheep follow sheep.

I see Tommy McCormack showed his midas touch again, has he ever lost a county final as a manager? I know he has won 7 in both longford and Leitrim, he has to be up there in a select group of successful managers, possibly out on his own.

Lots of rumours circulating, in most cases they are just rumours. Nothing is fact unless it's from a direct source. That's not excusing some irresponsible behaviour resulting in a wide circle of close contacts, even in local schools. Better behaviour would be expected from supporters. All clubs players need to realise they need to behave responsible if they want to keep the show on the road.

Called the Rathcline - Clonguish result badly, hands up, didn't see that coming. There is plenty of potential in Rathcline, a lot of county panelists on both senior and U-21 panels. Their results were not reflecting that before the Clonguish game. The McCormack's know how to get maximum output out of players, so their absence for a few weeks may have been felt in the first couple of games. Rathcline are a young team, so they should be able to build and challenge, I would have no worry about their ability to stay senior, challenging at the top end consistently should be their aim. The rest of the games followed pretty much to form. Colmcille had a chance to beat 14 man Killoe. Killoe seem to have players just as good to come in for those they are loosing to injury, but if they loose any more, their squad will no doubt be tested.
