TJ Reid admits he didn't see Henry Shefflin's appointment as Galway hurling manager coming.

Despite playing in All-Ireland winning Kilkenny and Ballyhale Shamrocks teams alongside Shefflin, Reid was as surprised as anyone to learn of King Henry's succession to the Galway throne last week.

“The auld neighbour, I didn’t see that one coming,” Reid said after Ballyhale qualified for another Kilkenny SHC final at the weekend.

“Ah it kind of did (come as a surprise). Sure all of us saw Davy Fitz' nearly getting the job. I think it was the Monday that I saw it on Joe.ie that Davy was getting the job. Then on Wednesday the news broke that Henry got it.

“So it was a big surprise for us all. Henry is a dedicated man, committed to everything he does. He’s going up there to win. He’s travelling six, seven hours of a round trip to do it.

“He’ll be going up there to win, absolutely. And Galway have a serious outfit."
