Tyrone have been dealt a major blow with the news that Rory Brennan has opted out of the squad for the remainder of the season.

According to reports, the Trillick defender informed manager Malachy O’Rourke of his decision to depart the set-up earlier this week. Brennan helped the Red Hands to lift the Sam Maguire in 2021 before stepping away in 2023. But he returned to the fold after captaining Trillick to a county SFC title in 2023.

Tyrone have been far from their best in Division 2 of the Allianz Football League in the absence of key players such as Padraig Hampsey, Niall Devlin, Peter Harte and Kieran McGeary (who recently returned from his travels), while Darragh Canavan is currently in Australia. But a win over high-flying Meath in Croke Park this weekend would put any lingering relegation worries to bed and give them an outside chance of challenging for promotion going into the last round against Cork.
