More penalty drama in Down as Warrenpoint KO Burren

September 27, 2022

Drama-filled quarter-finals at Páirc Esler.

Twenty-four hours after All-Ireland club champions Kilcoo beat Clonduff in a penalty shootout, the same method was needed to decide last night's quarter-final between Warrenpoint and Burren at Páirc Esler.

Warrenpoint goalkeeper Gary McMahon emerged as the hero after he saved Ryan Treanor's spot-kick in sudden death. It secured a 5-4 win on penalties for 'Point after the sides had finished level on 3-7 to 2-10 after extra-time. John Boyle, Eoghan Byrne, Alan Davidson, Gary Boyle and John Boyle all converted penalties for the winners, with Ryan Treanor, Liam Kerr, Odhran Murdock and Danny Magill doing likewise for traditional giants Burren before McMahon denied Treanor.

Warrenpoint's reward is a semi-final meeting with Loughinisland, with Kilcoo facing Mayobridge in the other last-four tie.
