Clara GAA club has dismissed reports that it is selling its old ground to Offaly LGFA.

Pairc Bríd, or Bretland Park as it's now better known, has been brought back to life since Clara GAA agreed to give Offaly LGFA the use of it a couple of years ago. The Ballycumber Road venue hosted all but one of Offaly's home games in this year's National League and Leinster and All-Ireland Intermediate Championships, and also plays host to all the major ladies football club fixtures in the Faithful County. 

Last weekend, Offaly LGFA launched a major fundraising drive to become one of the first counties to own their own ground which sparked rumours that a sale had been agreed. But Clara GAA - whose main grounds are now located on the Kilbeggan Road - released a statement last evening stressing that this was not the case. 

“For the purposes of clarity, there is no agreement in place between Clara GAA Club and Offaly LGFA in relation to the sale of Pairc Bhríde in Clara," the club of top golfer Shane Lowry said in a statement.

“In accordance with GAA rules in relation to property disposals, any agreement to dispose of property must be approved by the members of Clara GAA club and a formal application must be submitted to the Offaly GAA County Committee. The sanctioned application must then be submitted to Leinster GAA for recommendation to the National Finance Management Committee in Croke Park.

“Offaly LGFA were made aware of this process in recent correspondence from Clara GAA Club.”
