"Anxious enough time" for Cahill as Waterford injuries mount

Waterford manager Liam Cahill faces an anxious wait over a couple of his star players ahead of the Deise men’s Munster senior hurling championship opener against Clare later this month.

Austin Gleeson, Shane Fives and captain Conor Prunty are all thought to be concerns for the clash with the Banner men in Thurles on June 27th.

Gleeson was substituted with an ankle injury in yesterday’s victory over Tipperary while Prunty and Fives both came off with quad injuries at Walsh Park.

Speaking to RTE’s Sunday Sport on the injuries, Cahill said it will be an “an anxious enough time” for him this week as he waits to learn whether or not players will be available for the Semple Stadium clash in less that two weeks.

"Very early yet to tell, but they'd all be little concerns for me now to be honest," he said.

"The backroom team and medics will work hard on them during the week. When you have quad muscles and ankles and stuff it is never good two weeks out.

"A lot of these injuries now are three and four week jobs, hence we took off a few guys because we couldn't persist with it when they were feeling little strains.”

He added: "It will be an anxious enough time now for me next week until we get a handle on what's happening.”
