Clare manager Brian Lohan was understandably pleased following his team’s Allianz Hurling League victory over Kilkenny in Ennis today.

Two goals either side of half-time from the in-form Tony Kelly, scorer of 2-5, David Reidy and Aaron Shanagher saw the Banner County round off their Division 1 Group B campaign with an eye-catching 4-20 to 1-25 win against the previously unbeaten Cats.

"It's tough to go away in this league and win matches, we went away to Laois and won, went away to Dublin and won, and then coming back home it was great to get a performance against a real, quality team, we all know how good Kilkenny are," Lohan told eir Sport afterwards

"The season is so compressed now, you don't really know how you're going to perform so it's good to get into a good battle and come out the right side of it."

All-Star forward John Conlon was one of Clare's many standout performers, settling in well in his new centre-back role.

Lohan added: "It's a new position for John, you have to realise as well he's coming back from a cruciate injury so it was going to take him a while to get up to the pitch of playing in that position but we're very happy with him and the whole half-back line."
