Cavan v Meath

Of coarse its someone's fault Jon smith, the last few years in the county set up from under age level up its been trained into to players to be defensive, if you focus all on defensive play your going to end up with good defenders.

is there a forward tearing it up game in game out at club level in Cavan, in any of the 3 divisions, and I don't mean scoring four or five points from free kicks, I don't think there is, so what is the Cavan management to do, and lets not forget that county football is a big step up from division 1 of the Cavan county league, and div 1 is a big step up from div 2 and div 2 is a big step up from div 3,

Tryone got relegated from Division 1 yesterday, and the main reason for this is the lack of scoring forwards, only McCurry has been a regular scorer from play for them this season and they like Cavan lack ball winners in the forwards. Derry too lack scorers, scoring forwards is the hardest thing to find, look how long Mayo have struggled to get their forward line up to the level required and they have been one of the best teams in Ireland for nearly ten years now, but its still the forward line that is their biggest let down.

Was at the game Sunday and I taught cavan were the better team but couldn't take there chances .... It's difficult to pinpoint but it has to looked at minus keating and givney at this stage ....from Sunday Martin dunne missed about 2-6 which includes the goal chance that should have been tapped over in the 1st half also Cian mackey missed about 1-2 more disappointing is the fact he is not giving the ball when he should be ... Overall I thought if chances were taken cavan would of won the game id be more worried as a meath fan heading into the champo ....

Its very unfair for people here giveing out yards about our forewards when they are makeing endless runs and the ball is never given in at the right time... Somebody mentioned the great Roscommon forwards but they would fare no better if in this sterile Cavan team... Very few goals are ever scored as a result of slow build up so it is no surprise we only got one in 7 games... I wonder how many Roscommon or Down got in their 7 games..?? Whoever came up with this way of playing football and thinks you are makeing progress needs their head examined...!!!!

You must have poor eyesight, Cavan missed 3 or goal chances against Meath. They are creating chances not converting them

Something wrong with your eye sight as well for Meath had as many chances if not more and punched them over the bar instead thats the difference from Cavan and other teams. No brain take your points just like Meath did better than walking away with noting on the scoreboard for another attack attempt.

More of the same sadly next year and the year after unless hyland walks and I cannot see this happening any time soon.

Mowbar,

I think Hyland will be gone after this year. No doubt about it, I think he did a good job, but he's brought us as far as he can in my view and the thing needs to be freshened up, he's been there since Val Andrews was in charge, I think he's the second longest serving inter-county manager right now. But it will take a new man to bring us to that next level.

Anyway, now is not the time for this discussion, we should be focusing on how to knock Monaghan of their pedestal. Hopefully the Dubs will give them another pasting this weekend to test their confidence.

Cavans style of play makes them look good results wise but in reality they are brutal to watch... Cavans defence is sound enough and with every one available there is no need for dropping players back and slowing the game down...going over and back..they are starting to make soccer look exciteing..!!! Win the ball in defence and get it to the forewards as quickly as possible..its not rocket science..

The irony of people complaining about the defence being loose, . The reason for that is that are more attack minded this year with Mchale on board

meath had chances to score.. and what, cavan were assured of Division 2 status, both Cavan and Meath went for the game and left space

Hyland has done a great a job and diserves a bit more respect regardless if he stays if he stays or goes. Ye should remember where Cavan were a few years ago

Foolsgold.. I cant see where Cavan are more attack minded this year...their scores donr reflect that statement..low points total and the embarressing total of 1 goal in 7 games says it all.. The defence is sound enough and a more adventerous manager will get a lot more out of this talented bunch of players.. I think Hyland is stuck in a rut and has not improved the team at all in the last 18 months or so...they have not progressed at the same rate as Mon or Roscommon...over that period

Compare Monaghan and Roscommon's performance in the noughties to that of Cavan. The Rossie young players were going into a settled team that only won Connacht a few years back for example. The Cavan U21s were going into a team that had struggled to win a championship game since 2005. Cavan had to start from the beginning again with little or no historical players there.

As for the 1 goal in seven games, if you were at the Meath game with a bit better scoring we should have had at least 2 goals. Our shooting was atrocious.

Your summing up is partly correct but Monaghan had no real underage success in comparasion to us and we beat them in Div 3 2 years ago but now seem to be well ahead of us... Good management I expect but we have ahance in a few weeks to see where we are with them...

The Monaghan match in the Championship will tell us exactly where we are.
No use talking about the state of Cavan football until after this match.
I don't like our style but I am prepared to wait until after this game before deciding if the management should step down.
I have nothing against Terry & Co. except that their style of football is horrible to watch but if they beat Monaghan playing that way then I'd except that.

Cavan_Slasher - we dont need the Monaghan match to tell us where we are, youve already summed it up - horrible to watch!!
There is no doubt, we could go out and get a win against Monaghan, and be lucky enough to win an Ulster Title, but its highly unlikely that we will.
But regardless of what happens against Monaghan, theres no doubt that change is serioulsy needed, and that means a new manager with a attacking philosophy and one who will play to our strengths. People are totally fed up watching the way we play, its horrible, negative football.
Hyland to his credit has brought the discipline, but we now need someone to bring a bit of pride to the jersey and put Cavan Football
up where it belongs.

but it's so repetitive. you guys are saying the same thing over and over again. it's almost like you think that the more times you say something the more believable it becomes.

I don't know who "You guys" are though.
I am fully behind the team and always was.
It's the style of football I don't like.
I also have nothing against Terry Hyland.
