Just a point to add...You're team need a goal in the last few minutes, you're playing with a very strong wind at your back, nothng else has worked...how about throwing one of your towering midfielders in full forward and putting the ball in on the square, I mean, its perfectly alright for the all Ireland champions to do....just a thought!

It was a very average performance and i suppose that's what you get sometimes when you change the style of play. There was an attempt to foot pass but some many of them went astray and for the main part the inside forward line weren't winning the 50/50 ball. We have to look at alternatives on the inside forward line. Some of you have mentioned it already but there was a definite need for a ball winner inside if only to provide another option.

The other worrying part for me was in the second have Down got through on goal 3-4 times and our fullback was missing. Granted we were a man down later on, and he was out the field trying to look after laverty (who was Motm) but i have never seen us cut open like that lately.

Down were no great shakes but i think we lost that game rather than Down winning it.

Cavan need to quickly sort out U21 dilemma

Watching the Cavan and Down match in Breffni Park on Saturday must have been a bit depressing for the loyal Cavan supporters on what had been a glorious day for their county with the accession of Drumgoon clubman Aogan O'Fearghail as President of the GAA.

Cavan were really poor in this game and particularly in the second half when they had the gale-force wind behind them.

The county now has a dilemma - sorting out the best 25 players from the four Ulster-winning U-21 teams of recent years and concentrating on making them more mature individuals capable of stepping up to the top teams. Now Down themselves were no world-beaters, but they did have a handful of players who knew how to actually win the game and then go after it with a vengeance. Down have always been like that and Cavan should know that better than any other Ulster county.

It was a rough night weather-wise but Down had the players to cope with that toughness on a soft pitch when too many Cavan players must have been dreaming of summer football and fast, dry surfaces. Cavan need to learn very quickly about the facts of life in higher-grade football - it is a million miles away from winning U-21 titles.

Cavanblueman.... Why on earth would we put a big man on the edge of the square to win the ball while playing with the wind...?? Thats like something Kerry would do and look where they are... Our genius of coaches would rather pass the ball around out the field and run the clock down, then introduce a couple of subs with 2mins to go... They are real smart fellows do you not know...!!!

Hmmm, Eugene McGee makes a good point. Where exactly are we going with the u21's? Are we placing too much emphasis on the grade? Is it time now to direct our full resources towards the seniors?

I wouldn't quite call it a dilemma like McGee did, but certainly is an interesting point that merits discussion on here.

I think that's true for all teams though . Any team that has been in Division 3 for a long time is going to have to adjust to Division 2 . Some don't . And U21s have to adjust to senior for all counties as well . Again some don't . It's kind of stating the obvious . Looking at the table though we're not the worst placed team . Bit early to be judging our progress or saying we have a dilemma .

Argue MaddenHayes and whoever else should be available to the senior team as its survival in Div 2 is much more important than another U-21 Ulster title.... We are after winning 4 in a row and not a sign of a foreward of any use comming trough to senior..... It says it all about the coaching at U-21 level

Im trying to figure out were we are going,, against Roscommon a game I wasn't at, Cavan got a great result one I didn't see coming,,I went to the Laois game and I was very impressed with the performances, the conditions suited us. against Down in the first half I can understand they were playing against a strong breeze, so they wanted to keep the score low going into the second half, I think were it went wrong for us in the second half was our weakness was shown up, we just don't have forwards that can win there own ball in a crowded defence , the strong breeze on our side actually doesn't be a advantage to us . With the players we have at the minute we are best suited to good dry calm conditions . but to seriously compete with top teams we have to do something with the forward line , maybe reality is that we just haven't got the star forwards that is required.

I refer to your demeaning comment about a batman I spoke to recently.
You suggested that because he worked behind a bar he had little knowledge of football. I suppose my uncle who won an allireland senior medal for Cavan and was brought up in a public house would have little knowledge of football either.

Jesus lads you's lost a game in awful conditions and there's the negativity back some people on this are gas all of a sudden going unbeaten in two games cavan are world beaters get a grip most of the comments at the start of the year ... ah we will be relegated for sure .... Gas bunch some of you's and it's the regulars as usual moaning again again and again .... Some lads stating we should beat down by 3+ 5+ ....

What posts did you make after the Roscommon game that Cavan won? What Roscommon game did Cavan win? I thought we drew, me being at the game and all. I thought you only dealt in games that Cavan lose.

The point is that most posters see the bad and good. You post when Cavan lose and disappear when they win.

One sure way to know that a man has no defence for what he says is when he starts to tell you that he's entitled to his opinion. I've yet to read/hear a discussion where anyone told anyone else that they weren't entitled to an opinion.
