Busy Sunday of county final action in store for the McCabe clan

Summerhill's Diarmuid McCabe

It could well be a weekend to remember for the McCabe family with no fewer than five of them involved in county final action tomorrow (Sunday).

Former Cavan star Dermot McCabe will be on the sidelines at Kingspan Breffni, where his native Gowna take on Killygarry in the Breffni County’s senior football championship final (4pm).

Serving as joint-manager alongside Fintan Reilly, the 1997 All Star will be hoping the Longford border men can go one better than last year when they lost out to Ramor United (after a replay) on the very same stage. Dermot's brother Seamus is also part of the Gowna backroom team that will look to lead the club to its first Oliver Plunkett Cup success in an even two decades.

Some 40 miles down the road, their brother Martin will be overseeing Tubberclair’s fortunes in the Westmeath IFC final replay at 3pm on the same day, with his son Eoghan set to line-out at centre-field against Shandonagh at TEG Cusack Park. Dermot is also a selector alongside his sibling but obviously won’t be making the trip to Mullingar.

Their nephew Diarmuid McCabe plays centre-forward for Summerhill who take on Ratoath in tomorrow’s Meath SFC final at Pairc Tailteann (3pm).

Diarmuid's father Declan was in charge of Summerhill when they last triumphed to the Keegan Cup in 2013 with victory over Na Fianna.
