Kingscourt Stars Club Notes

November 30th 2020

Fundraising for the Homeless

While we are all living in hard times at least we have a roof over our heads and a bed to sleep in. Not everyone is that fortunate. Kingscourt Stars GAA Club has undertaken to assist Sonya Nesbitt (Little Buds) and her team of helpers by raising funds for the many homeless people in our capital city. Presently Sonya & her team travel 2-3 times a week delivering food & clothing to the many people young & old who are hungry and cold living on the streets of Dublin. Over the next three Saturdays from 10am - 4pm our Ladies teams will make up shoe boxes as Christmas presents for the homeless people with goods donated from various businesses & individuals to which we say a special thanks. Again we have many slots available for boys & girls to help out for two hours on these dates.
On Saturday 5th & 12th Dec between 10am - 12 noon we are accepting clothing at the GAA Club Grounds. The required clothing is limited to coats/jackets, jumpers, hoodies, tracksuit bottoms & runners. Sleeping bags are also welcomed. The above items have to be clean and in good condition otherwise not accepted.
Our Senior players are hosting a 24 hour Bike Spin fundraiser starting at 12 noon on the 12th December. This fundraiser will generate much needed finance to purchase food, clothing & toiletries for the homeless. Many of the local clubs and guest players will be in attendance. A special Kingscourt Stars Go-Fund Me page has been set up for people wishing to contribute to this fundraising venture.  All enquiries and offers of help to committee member Philip Smith who is coordinating the fundraising efforts phone 087 2793291.

All Ireland Football Senior Championship

We all wish Pádraig, Mickey Graham and the Cavan team the very best of luck in the semi-final against Dublin in Croke Park this Saturday December 5th 2020 at 5.30pm. We will all be cheering you on from our couches! Fr Gerry has kindly moved the Mass on that Saturday to 4pm!

Sustainability

In recent weeks a Kingscourt Sustainable Energy Group as been formed to facilitate local householders & community groups to engage in grant funded energy saving initiatives within the community. All householders & community organisations are invited to apply to the group for assistance. The group will initially work in partnership with Dunleer SEC who are operating successfully in the Louth area to identify specific housing & sports projects that will save energy and reduce costs.  The Kingscourt SEC group consist of Philip Smith, Roisin O’Reilly, Gerry Martin & Colm Kieran all club members. For further information contact Philip on 087 2793291.
Shop Local

Coming into the Festive season and with all retail outlets open from Tuesday 1st December the committee would encourage everyone to shop local and keep our town alive. If everyone would consider spending even a little locally it would be a great help to all our businesses. M&Fs Clothing Main St stocks a large range of club and county gear. We wish all our retailers the very best over the coming weeks
