Football Update

The Senior Ladies recorded a good  victory over Ballyhaise on Sunday morning last in the Division 3 League Semi Final.  Next up this coming Sunday  is the League Final against Kingscourt at 2 p.m.  Venue to be decided going to press, please check Ladies Fixtures or Cornafean Ladies Facebook page for further details.

Best of luck to the girls and management team in the final and hopefully they can bring their very satisfactory year to a close with a League Title.

Despite an excellent team performance in Gowna on Sunday afternoon, Cornafean's Senior Reserves went down by 5 pts to the locals in a very entertaining match.  The lads can make amends on this weekend with another game in the Division 2 Reserve Championship and we wish them well.

No match details going to press but please check all social media channels for match information.  See club notes for match reports.

Ladies Division 3 League Semi Final

Cornafean 3-9  Ballyhaise 1-6

A great early goal from Orla Smith gave the Senior Ladies the positive start they were looking for in this enjoyable and well contested Division 3 semi final played in Pairc Naomh Fionnan on last Sunday morning.  Cornafean dominated in most sectors of the pitch throughout the first half and will have been somewhat disappointed to go in at the break just three points to the good.  A brace of points after half time from Fiona Morrow and a great score via Amy Wharton kept the Reds in pole position but the Ballyhaise girls were playing their part with good points of their own.  When the ladies in green and gold hit the net just before the water break it was back to a one point game and the game was back in the balance.  Crucially the Reds kept calm and with Amy and Orla kicking the next two scores helping to calm Cornafean nerves.  Late goals from Sarah Cullivan and Deirbhile McCaffrey confirmed Cornafean's place in the League final on this coming Sunday.  Well done to the girls and management on their win and wishing them the best of luck in the final.

Division 2

Reserve Championship

Gowna 3-12  Cornafean 2-10

Hard luck to the Reserve Reds on their 5 pt defeat to Gowna Reserves on Sunday last.  The Reds were the better team for long periods of the game but a soft goal and a penalty conceded within minutes of each other in the last 10 minutes  of the match was enough for Gowna to run out lucky 5 pt winners.  The Reds were unfortunate they did not put more scores on the board when hey were dominant in the early exchanges.

Team

R Geoghegan, B. Sheridan, P. Brady, C. Briody, S. Olwill, N. Corcoran, E. Brady, C. McSeain, P. Hogan, D. Kilkenny, C. Sheridan, W. Johnson, J. McGahern, J. Traynor, A. Smith.

Scores

J. Traynor 0-6, C. Sheridan 1-1, J. McGahern 1-0, A. Smith0-2, D. Kilkenny 0-1

Best of luck to the Reds in their next match in the championship this weekend.
