Michael Cusacks remain unbeaten in the 2012 NSW GAA hurling season and they look forward to the championship campaign with high hopes after retaining the NSW league title last Sunday in Ingleburn, Sydney.

It was edge of the seat stuff for supporters who made the worthwhile trip 45 minutes outside of Sydney to Monarch Park. Sydney Shamrocks got off to a strong start and were the dominant team in the first half while playing with a strong breeze. While Cusacks had a comfortable league campaign, they were certainly surprised to be trailing Shamrocks by two goals at half time.

It took the introduction of Allan O'Connor (Limerick) and Shane Coen (Galway) to bring a new lease of life to the Cusack's forward line. A few positional switches like Aonghus Callanan (Galway) to centre forward and Aiden Ryan (Cork) to centre back made all the difference to claw back the two goal deficit. While the points were exchange tit for tat from both sides during the second half, the real turning point in the game came from a fortuitous goal which was carefully watched to the net by Allan O'Connor. Eamonn Ryan (Tipperary) and Conor Hassett (Clare) put in strong performances towards the end to ensure Michael Cusacks picked up their second title of the season after also successfully defending their Gosford title back in March.

Vice-Captain Eamonn Ryan collected the trophy on Sunday. Unfortunately Captain Gearoid Keogh missed the game as he is currently at home in Ireland for a number of weeks.
