
Sligo progressed into Round 3 of the Tailteann Cup with a 0-29 to 3-12 win against Waterford at Fraher Field this afternoon.
Lee Deignan led the way for the Yeats men with 0-11 over the 70 minutes as they claimed their first win in this year’s championship.
Deignan struck three first-half two-pointers to help the visitors lead by 0-18 to 0-7 at the break, with Waterford netting goals via Aaron Ryan and Liam Mulligan during the first 20 minutes of the second period.
Shane Deignan, Cian Lally and Niall Murphy shot points at the other end which helped to raise Sligo’s tally to 0-25 ahead of more scores from Jack Lavin, Luke Towey and Lee Deignan (2) rounding off the victory to bring an end to the Deise men’s winless season.
In Round 2A, Fermanagh booked a their place into the third round by defeating Wexford (2-20 to 2-13) at Brewster Park.
Darragh McGurn and Garvan Jones were in fine kicking form for the hosts early on as they led by 0-12 to 0-5 at half-time.
McGurn added a two-pointer early in the second-half before Sean Ryan bagged a brace of goals for the Model men either side of a Stephen McGullion major, which had the scoreboard reading 1-15 to 2-8 with 20 minutes to go.
Glen Malone’s point left a goal between the sides ahead of McGullion raising his second green flag on the hour mark to put the Ernesiders on their path to a seven-point victory.
In Corrigan Park, Antrim made their goals count in a 4-12 to 2-12 win against Tipperary.
Two Ryan McQuillan goals helped the Saffrons towards a 2-6 to 0-4 lead at the interval and Conor Hand would add their third goal in the 46th minute.
Ronan Boyle bagged goal number four for the hosts 10 minutes later, but Tipp got goals from Steven O’Brien and Joe Higgins to make it a five-point game late on.
Antrim held on however, booking themselves a home third round tie ahead of tomorrow afternoon’s draw.
