Conor Murray scored 1-3 as The Downs eked out a 2-9 to 1-9 victory over Coralstown-Kinnegad to reach the Westmeath SFC semi-finals in six weeks' time.

Former county panellist Luke Loughlin came off the bench at TEG Cusack Park to kick two late points for Steven Cleary's side, who trailed by 1-7 to 1-4 with 46 minutes gone on the clock after Shane Fleming netted for the Reds but they responded in fine fashion by hitting an unanswered 1-3, 1-2 of which came from Murray.

The Downs spurned some bad wides in the first-half as Niall Mitchell's opening goal ensured that they went in level at the interval, 1-2 to 0-5.

Despite the three-point defeat, an injury-hit Coralstown-Kinnegad also rubber-stamped their passage to the last four.

In yesterday's other match in Section A, holders St Loman's narrowly beat Garrycastle 2-11 to 1-13 at Moate as both sides remain in contention to fill the quarter-final spots, while a fourth successive defeat at the hands of Athlone today would relegate Tyrrellspass who are bottom of the table with no points.

Meanwhile, Shane Curran's Caulry sprung a surprise 2-13 to 1-10 win against Mullingar Shamrocks in Rosemount to go top of Section B.
