Mayo are 2021 Nickey Rackard Cup champions after seeing off Tyrone’s challenge with a convincing 2-27 to 1-14 win at Croke Park this afternoon.

Runners up last year, the Connacht men controlled the decider from start to finish with Sean Regan netting their first goal that saw them 1-3 to 0-1 in front after five minutes.

Derek Walsh’s men would kick on from there to lead by 1-15 to 0-5 at the break, leaving their opponents with a mountain to climb in the second-half at headquarters.

Conor Grugan pulled a goal back for the Red Hands on 43 minutes but there was no stopping the Westerners, as Cathal Freeman netted an immediate response that saw them with one hand on the trophy.

The victory marks Mayo's first in the competition since 2016 and means they can now look forward to hurling in the Christy Ring Cup once again next season.
