Four time All-Ireland winner Paul Murphy has retired from intercounty hurling.

The Danesfort clubman won Celtic Crosses in 2011, ‘12, ‘14 and ‘15, wearing the no. 2 jersey in all those finals.

He won All Star awards in each of those All-Ireland winning years and also claimed three Allainz League titles.

"Thanks to all my team-mates down through the years and the journey you brought me on,” said Murphy in a statement this morning.

"It's a privilege to have hurled not all with but against some of the greatest players ever to play the game, a memory which I will always cherish.

"I would also like to thank the management teams that have given me the opportunities over the years and the county board and supporters club for all your hard work and dedication to Kilkenny GAA."
