Bealin calls for Westmeath to have home advantage

Former Westmeath manager and Dublin footballer Paul Bealin believes that the Leinster SFC quarterfinal clash between his native county and the Midlanders should be played in Cusack Park, Mullingar.

Bealin has thrown his weight behind the calls for the game to be played in Mullingar, after many neutrals had voiced their thoughts on where the game should be played.

Westmeath were drawn out first, but Leinster Council state that if Dublin play outside the capital there are four designated venues that can host their games, Nowlan Park, Wexford Park, O’Moore Park and O’Connor Park.

And it is the latter that is expected to host next year’s clash, but Bealin feels that even the Dubs would be happy to play the game in their opponents grounds.

“Dublin would be delighted to play there,” Bealin states in the Westmeath Examiner. “Dublin fans would be happy to travel down to Mullingar for the day, Westmeath would be happy to have it there, so that’s where it should be played.

“If the GAA want to promote the game then here is a ready-made fixture to do just that. It’s a real shame that the indications coming out are that the game will not be played in Cusack Park. If it is an issue over capacity then maybe that should be reviewed.”
