Top referee David Gough took charge of his first game in six months last weekend despite claims back in March that he wouldn’t ref again until a vaccine for Covid-19 was available.

Gough officiated the Meath SFC clash between Gaeil Colmcille and Dunshaughlin two days ago and is expected to referee in his home county again going forward.

On this day last year he held the whistle for the drawn All-Ireland SFC final between Dublin and Kerry.

Speaking in the days after all GAA activities were suspended back in March due to the outbreak of Covid-19, Gough stated that he “wouldn't be comfortable refereeing matches with no vaccine”.

However, the recent success of the GAA’s Cúl Camps helped to convince him that it was safe to resume officiating again.
