Relegation Playoff

MAW 1-14 CCFW 1-13

The little bit of luck that deserted us all year finally came our way when we secured our status in Intermediate for another year. That said before our goal in the last minute of ordinary time the outcome had all the hallmarks of other earlier games where due to combinations of red cards,the woodwork(3 times in this match),missed chances, brilliant goalkeeping and other strokes of misfortune we had come up short. We started sluggishly despite the aid of a gale and conceded a soft goal early but rallied to lead 0-8 to 1-3 at half time having hit the post twice, had Dylan Ennis sent off on a straight red after 18 mins and had a penalty saved after Conor Claffey had been brought downWe had it all to do when CCFW levelled matters pretty quickly on the resumption. However no one could question the ability of this group to win the big ones and they really went to the well again here.A magnificent point blank save from Alex Ryan seemed to galvinise the lads for one final push and with almost the last play in ordinary time Ruairi Cunningham drove at the defence before slipping the ball into the onrushing Nigel Adamson who supplied the deftest of touches to the CCFW net to send our supporters into raptures. There were standout performers all over with special mention to Paul Gorman,Billy Berry(an incredible turnover in injury time),John Corbally,Rob Forde and the tremendous Gavin Murray who drove out of defence time after time particularly in the second half and also registered two fine scores.Well done to the players and management on what on reflection has been a successful year given 2 promotions secured as well. Finally many thanks to all our supporters and particularly our neighbours who turned out in such numbers all of whom ,we hope, were  sent home delirious by the outcome!

U16 Championship Semi final

Northern Gaels 2-13 MAW 2-6

We were well in this until an injury to Luke Gavin seemed to unsettle us and our opponents scored 1-5 without reply in the last 10 minutes.We led 2-2 to 0-6 at half time thanks to green flags from Conor Bracken and Reece Jones but in truth the lads will know they never quite got going and best wishes to the north Westmeath amalgamation in the final. We would have to say that the presentation of the pitch was disappointing with lads being buried up to their ankles on a surface that clearly hasn't seen a mower in a number of weeks. These young lads train as much as anyone and deserve more than that for their big day out.
