Ladies Junior Championship Semi-Final
Athlone 2-14 Loughnavalley 4-12
Hard luck to our ladies' team who lost out to Loughnavalley in the semi-final of the junior championship, played in Milltown on Saturday evening.  While this was a disappointing end to the season, overall it's been a very successful year for the Athlone women, with large numbers attending each training session and some excellent match performances and results.  Here's hoping that the upward trajectory will continue in 2018 and that the girls will land the silverware that their hard work and enthusiasm deserves.  Many thanks to Tool And Plastics Industries Ltd for sponsoring new training gear for the ladies.

U12 Boys:
Following a two week summer break, the U12 boys were back with a bang last week playing three games in eight days and managing to fit a trip to Croke Park in between.

Match v Mountbellew (Sun 13th August)
We played host to Mountbellew on Sunday 13th August and despite both sides missing a lot to holidays the lads who played can feel very good about themselves as they came away with a good win in the circumstances by playing some very entertaining football. Thanks to Tomas Mannion and the lads from Mountbellew for a very enjoyable game and we look forward to the reverse fixture next week.
The Athlone panel on the day was: Terry Chen, Rian Claffey, Brian Collins, Cian Dolan, Luke Farrell, Cathal Hardiman, Josh Kenny, Johnny Martin, Evan McMickan, Dano McMonagle, Owen McNamara, Kian Mitchell, Tiernan Mitchell, Luke Nicholson, Luke O'Connell, Daniel Omukoro, Mark Rockett, Piaras Rohan, Jason Ukatu, and Brandon Varszegi.

Match v Ballynacaragy (Wed 16th August)
The Athlone U12 boys made the trip to Ballynacaragy on Wednesday evening last for the latest round of the Westmeath U12 League and came away with a well earned victory. As with most games played in August, we were down quite a few regulars but still managed to tog out 24 and each player got the maximum amount of playing time. Despite not being at their best, it was very encouraging to see some of the younger lads step up to the plate on the night. Many tanks to Owen and the rest of the Ballynacaragy lads for their hospitality

The Athlone panel on the night was: Rian Claffey, Luke Farrell, John Fleming, Cillian Geary, Kyle Greene, Cathal Hardiman, Conor Hughes, Josh Kenny, Kyle Mahon, Ben Manning, Johnny Martin, Lorcan McCormack, Dano McMonagle, Owen McNamara, Tiernan Mitchell, Luke Nicholson, Luke O'Connell, Daniel Omukoro, Piaras Rohan, Niall Tallon, Jason Ukatu, Shane Wheatley, Brandon Varszegi and Luke Whelan.

Match v St Maurs (Sun 20th August)
The lads played host to Rush based Dublin team St Maurs on Sunday morning last and played two very enjoyable 10-a-side matches before retiring to the club house for some very well deserved refreshments. It was great for the lads to play against some novel opposition and we thank Noel Whelan for the game. For the record, there was a win apiece for each team which left everyone satisfied.

Trip to Croke Park (Sat 19th Aug)
We had a superb day out on Saturday last when a group of thirty eager Gaels (young and old) made the trip to Croke Park for a tour of headquarters. The stand out moment of what was a very entertaining day was the opportunity for each child to hold the real Sam Maguire aloft. Well done to Croke Park for a brilliant day that these lads will remember for the rest of their lives.
