Rosemount Gaa Club Notes

July 17, 2017

Gaa: A great crowd turned out in the park last Tuesday evening for our Feis Cup semi-final clash with Caulry. In what was a fine evening weather wise for a game, we managed to turn in a solid performance and book our place in the final. We started the game well, and went into a 3 points to no score lead after ten minutes. Caulry then started to gain some possession around midfield, a strong run forward by one of their defenders was finished to the back of the net to level the game. We kicked on and finished the first half with points from Plunkett Maxwell, and two Sean Pettit frees. Seanie then finished the first half with a fine score from a 45 from his right hand side. This left the Half time score with us winning by 0.7 to 1.01. The second half began with up's and down's, a great Davey Tone Point from play was followed by the loss of Eamon Boland at full back to a hamstring injury. Dude McCormack entered the fray, and with a few positional switches we began to take a hold of the game. Some great tackling by the Dude and TJ Fox in the middle third resulted in us winning a turnover ball, the ball was played to Davey Tone who took on his man and finished with a neat point off his right foot. With ten minutes to go we introduced Ben Cox & Cathal Byrne who gave us an extra bit of pace and energy coming into the final ten minutes. Ben Cox got himself on the end of a great ball in by Deccie Mullen, and finished with a nice point from 25 yards out, and from there we never looked back. Overall it was a very honest performance by the lads who chased and worked there socks off for the full hour. With a few injuries now starting to creep in let's hope we have a full bill of health for championship in a weeks' time. Well done to referee Des McEnery from Garrycastle who did a great job, let the game flow where possible, and was very organised with him bringing 4 umpires with him as well which was great to see. Final score - Rosemount 0.14 Caulry 1.02. Team: Eoin Carberry, Padraig Nestor Eamon Boland, Damien Carroll, Plunkett Maxwell, Boidu Sayeh, Darragh Healy,  David 'DD' McCormack, Israel IIunga, Shane Tone, TJ Fox, Luke Kelly,  David Tone, Declan Mullen, Sean Pettit. Subs Used: Ben Cox, Cathal Byrne, David 'Dude' McCormack. We now take on Mullingar Shamrocks in the final. The game was to be played last Sunday but was postponed due to a clash of fixtures.
