Crookedwood GAA club notes

June 26, 2017

Junior Championship

Cullion was the venue for the latest round of the Junior A championship. After an enjoyable evenings hurling our second half comeback just fell short as we were defeated by one point, Cullion 1-15 Crookedwood 1-14. Cullion had a deserved good lead at the break as they done all the hurling in the first half. Our lads tore into them in the second half and picked off some fine scores, however, we had chances to win this one but alas time ran out on us. This was a good, clean sporting game of hurling and there were many fine performers on both sides, but the undoubted man of the match was the young Cullion no.15 who registered 10 points in total, definitely one for the future.

Senior Challenge.

Brownstown were the visitors to Crookedwood on Sunday morning last for a very useful challenge for both sides. Again, this was a good sporting game of hurling and was badly needed for our lads. At the end of it all we emerged victorious by 3 points, 2-16 to 3-10. Thanks to Brownstown for travelling over and we wish them the best of luck in the Senior championship.

Westmeath GAA

Best of luck to the County Senior hurlers and footballers in their respective qualifier ties. The hurlers travel to Thurles to take on All-Ireland champions Tipperaryon Saturday next at 5pm while the footballers welcome the Orchard county, Armagh to Mullingar on Saturday week. hard luck to the u-21 hurlers on their defeat to Kilkenny in the Leinster semi-final. Beating the Cats two years in a row was always going to be a big ask but the players gave it a good rattle before Kilkenny eventually pulled away in the latter stages.
