Minor League: Athlone v Rosemount
Our minor boys finished their league campaign last Thursday evening in Pairc Chiarain with a disappointing defeat against a well drilled Rosemount side. The visitors were first off the mark with a point, but this was followed by four points in a row from Athlone, two from Benny Martin, and one each from Enda Daly and Diarmuid Martin. Rosemount replied shortly after with two points of their own, but the home side led 0-6 to 0-5 at half time thanks to another Benny Martin point and a great score from Shane Allen.

The second half started with a brilliant point off the outside of the left from Josh Beaumont. This was followed by a point from Rosemount, before a dominant period for the home side. However, we failed to capitalise on this, only scoring 2 points - one from a Benny martin free and the other from Josh Beaumont after Donagh Prendergast had hit the post with a low shot. The winning of the game for Rosemount came with 2 goals in the space of a minute, after which Athlone were always chasing the game. Another Benny Martin point reduced the gap to two points, before Rosemount made the game safe with a third goal in injury time.

Rosemount were full credit for their win, owever Athlone will be disappointed with their display, apart from James Finlass who gave an outstanding display at full back from start to finish.  This brought a disappointing end to what had been a good league campaign where we won five and lost two of our games. All eyes now on the draw for the championship, which is due to get underway in July.

Athlone: John Duddy, Joseph Devins, James Finlass, Patrick Ryan, Paddy McGettigan, Shane Allen (0-1), David Cleary, Luke Kelly, Diarmuid Martin (0-1), Donagh Prendergast, Mark Egan, Eamon Martin, Josh Beaumont (0-2), Enda Daly (0-1), Benny Martin (0-5). Subs: Niall Doolan, Mark Tallon, Sean Dowd, Michael Byrne, Conor Rushe, Rytis Liaukevicius, Anthony Johnson.

Best of luck to all panel members sitting exams over the next few weeks.

U12 Boys:
Following a fixture list that featured some long road trips over the past month, it was a relieved set of parents that met in Pairc Chiarain last Tuesday to host Moate in round two of the Walsh Cup (Ballinasloe Tournament). The format for the tournament is two 11-a-side matches played across the pitch and once again Athlone were lucky to be able to tog out 33 players on the night. The older group of U12s were at full strength and following their recent defeat to Mullingar were in no mood to have the dose repeated and turned in one of their best performances of the year. From the first whistle the lads were on the front foot and played some wonderful attacking football against a very good Moate side. Coupled with some very resolute defence, it meant that the hosts emerged worthy victors on a score line of 5-11 to 3-03.

The U11s, while missing a number of regulars, played an excellent game against a very impressive Moate team and this game was nip and tuck throughout the fifty minutes. With five minutes to go the scores were level following some great attacking and defending from both sides. However, the visitors got the crucial major at the right time and managed to tack on some late scores as the Athlone boys poured forward looking for an equaliser. At the long whistle the Moate boys emerged victorious on a deserved if somewhat distorted, score line of 6-05 to 3-06. It was a great game from both sides are all involved deserve great credit.

Overall the points were shared on the night and both clubs went home happy.

The Athlone panel on the night was: Terry Chen, Brian Collins, Cian Dolan, Luke Farrell, Ciaran Finlay, John Fleming, Kyle Greene, Cathal Hardiman, Toby Heavey, Conor Hughes, Matthew Keane, Josh Kenny, Kyle Mahon, Ben Manning, Johnny Martin, Lorcan McCormack, Cillian McGowan, Evan McMickan, Dano McMonagle, Owen McNamara, Kian Mitchell, Tiernan Mitchell, Luke O'Connell, Daniel Omukoro, Piaras Rohan, Ian Rushe, Jason Rushe, Niall Tallon, Jason Ukatu, Brandon Varszegi, Shane Wheatley, Luke Whelan and Brandon Wykes.
