St Loman's manager Luke Dempsey has stressed that his charges will have to be at their best to retain their Westmeath SFC title.

On Sunday, they take on a Tyrrellspass side that last won the title nine years ago, but have been battling in the business end of the championship every year.

Tyrrellspass had the better of the exchanges when the sides met in the group stages, but Loman's are still strong favourites to retain their title.

Dempsey is long enough in the game though to realise that anything can happen on county final day.

Speaking to the Westmeath Independent he pointed out to what happened in this year's Laois SFC final.

"If you look at this year's Laois championship, Stradbally were given very little chance but they stopped Portlaoise from a ten in a row, despite coming from what was perceived to be the weaker semi-final," said Dempsey.

"There was very little between next Sunday's teams in the final three years ago when Declan (Rowley) managed St Loman's to beat Tyrrellspass. We have lost a few important players since, and it needed a lot of work to shape the team again."
