Nine years ago nearly to the day Waterford edged out Galway by 1-25 to 2-20 in a brilliant SHC Qualifier at Walsh Park.
This Group A game brought 12,000 to a packed Dungarvan venue with Eoin Kelly staring after returning from suspension.
The Tribesmen led by 0-14 to 0-13 at the break with Ger Farragher on top form.
Substitute Paul Flynn goaled to put the home side 1-19 to 0-18 ahead. Damien Hayes' goal brought Galway back into it but Waterford stretched clear before Cathal Connolly's injury time goal narrowed the gap to two.
