Waterford goalkeeper Stephen Enright has opted off the senior panel and will spend the summer in Boston.

The news was confirmed by Waterford manager Tom McGlinchey who revealed to the Waterford News & Star that he had known of the Ballinacourty man's decision for months.

"I have known this for a long time since our first night back on December 29th," said McGlinchey. "He told me he was going to Boston for the summer. He played the league and he is a fantastic keeper."

The battle for the number one jersey will now be between Ardmore's Sean Barron and under-21 goalkeeper David Whitty.

"We have Sean Barron there who is a good understudy and played National League. David Whitty, who played in the under-21 championship, has come in now as well. The two of them will fight it out for their place.

"Stephen is a huge loss, he was a huge presence but I'm very pleased with the two goalkeepers I have and no doubt they will do a good job for us as well."
