Waterford's Pauric Mahony

John Mullane has summed up how every Waterford supporter was feeling on hearing the news about Pauric Mahony's season-ending injury.

"It was a gut-wrenching moment for everyone in the county when we heard the news," the former county star said at the launch of RTE's championship coverage.

"I was sick to the stomach when I heard it. I really feel for the lad. He was probably the main talisman for Waterford all throughout the league.

"Pauric Mahony was an artist at playing the number 11 role. Knowing Paudie as I do, he'll come back a stronger player. He's built himself into a marvellous player."

Waterford manager Derek McGrath made no attempt to hide his disappointment when saying: "It's a terrible blow for Pauric himself. He's our talisman. There is no point in avoiding it, there is no point in dressing it up in any other way. Everything goes through him."
