HL1B: Deise destroy Saffrons

March 15, 2015

Waterford's Maurice Shanahan

Waterford 4-30
Antrim 0-10

Waterford's Division 1B destiny remains very much in their own hands after they strolled to a predictable comfortable victory over Antrim at Walsh Park.

Derek McGrath's charges finished with 32 points to spare over the table's bottom placed team and the result was never in doubt from early on.

Paul Shiels opened the scoring via a free but that proved to be as good as it got for Kevin Ryan's side who faced a 0-5 to 1-13 deficit at the break.

Stephen Bennett found the back of the Antrim net in the 18th minute and substitute Maurice Shanahan struck for their second goal 23 minutes after the resumption.

That left the scoreboard reading 2-24 to 0-8 and, another sub, Tom Devine raised the hosts' third green flag with six minutes to go.

Shanahan hammered the final nail into the Saffrons' coffin in the 68th minute and Waterford supporters went home content with a job well done.

The result leaves the Deise sitting pretty at the top of the 1B table with seven points from a possible eight.

They will make the short trip to Innovate Wexford Park to take on Liam Dunne's Model County in a winner-takes-all clash next Sunday.
