Shane Bennett has been released from the Waterford hurling panel for the remainder of the league to focus on his Leaving Certificate.

The Ballysaggart youngster has contributed 2-3 to Na Deise's tally so far in their impressive Division 1B campaign, including a crucial goal against Offaly on Saturday, but won't feature in the county colours again until the championship.

"We are leaving him away from the panel now for a month," manager Derek McGrath confirms in The Waterford News & Star. "That was part of the whole bargain.

"He is doing his Leaving Cert so he has a far stiffer exam than playing against Antrim or Wexford or a potential quarter-final. We are going to leave him go back to his studies.

"It's an obligation on our behalf to encourage that. We will miss him but we will keep in touch."
