Less than a month away from Rockland GAA Grand Opening

A new chapter will now begin at these fields, as the Rockland GAA will hold the Grand Opening of our new State of the Art Clubhouse on July 7th, 8th and 9th, 2017.

Orangeburg, NY May 26th 2017:-

The weekend-long celebration of this event will consist of sport and musical enjoyment containing both an international and local flavor. There will be a contingent of GAA All Star Gaelic Footballers and Hurlers, visiting from Ireland for the weekend. These players will participate in a series of Gaelic sporting events throughout the weekend; starting with a skills competition with the local underage GAA players on Friday, July 7th at 6:00pm. On Saturday July 8th from 11am - 1pm, there will be an opportunity for people to meet and greet the All Stars/Legends. The visiting All Stars will culminate their visit with an exhibition All Stars/Legends game on Sunday evening, July 9th at 5:30pm. These players are some of GAA's greatest Gaelic Footballers and Hurlers who have ever played these games. This gathering of renowned players is novel in its occurrence. The opportunity to view and meet so many legendary GAA figures in a single setting is the chance of a lifetime.

In the Rockland GAA All Stars/Legends game, the teams will be paired as a combination of

Leinster/Ulster players against their counterparts from Munster/Connacht.

The Ulster panel consists of: Paddy Bradley (Derry), Henry Downey (Derry), Paul Finlay (Monaghan), Owen Mulligan (Tyrone), Brian McGuigan (Tyrone), Peter Canavan (Tyrone), Brian Dooher (Tyrone), Aaron Kernan (Armagh), Oisin McConville (Armagh), James McCartan (Down) and Colm McFadden (Donegal).

The Leinster panel consists of: Graham Geraghty (Meath), Matty Forde (Wexford), Andy Comerford

(Kilkenny) and Martin Comerford (Kilkenny). The team manager for the Ulster/Leinster team is Brian Mullins (Dublin).

The Connacht panel consists of: Eamonn O'Hara (Sligo), Ciaran McDonald (Mayo), Conor Mortimer (Mayo), Padraic Joyce (Galway), Declan Meehan (Galway) and Frankie Dolan (Roscommon).

The Munster panel consists of: Tomas O'Se (Kerry), William Kirby (Kerry), Paul Galvin (Kerry), Tommy Griffin (Kerry), Dara O'Cinneide (Kerry), Declan Browne (Tipperary), Eamonn Corcoran (Tipperary), Shane McGrath (Tipperary), Sean Og O'hAlpin (Cork) and Ken McGrath (Waterford). The team manager for Connacht/Munster is Billy Morgan (Cork).

Officiating the match will be All Ireland referee, Pat McEnaney, from County Monaghan.

The local GAA teams will also be on view as the following games are scheduled:

Friday, July 7th:

6pm - GAA All Stars/Legends Skills competition

6:30pm - Rockland U17 Hurling match

8pm - The Rockland Men's Junior team will play a league match

Saturday, July 8th:

9am to 2:30pm - Dennis McHugh U-8 football tournament (30 teams entered)

9:30am-6:30pm - All Rockland GAA Underage Girls & Boys Football, Hurling & Camogie Vs local NYMB/G4G teams and teams traveling from Philadelphia, Boston & Atlanta

3:30pm - FDNY vs NYPD, Men's Gaelic Football match

5:00pm - Interstate Hurling match - Rockland Junior team Vs Allentown, Pennsylvania

6:30pm - Robert McKiernan Cup - Rockland Intermediate team will be playing the visiting Clogher Eire Og club team from County Tyrone

Sunday, July 9th:

9am - Mass under the New Outdoor Pavilion

12pm - Rockland Ladies Gaelic Football match

1:30pm - NYGAA Ladies Senior Gaelic Football - Cavan Vs Kerry/Donegal

1:30pm - U8 & U10 Poc Fada Competition Opened by Gerry Adams

3pm - NYGAA Men's Senior Gaelic Football match - Donegal Vs Monaghan

4:30pm - The official Opening Ceremony of the clubhouse will be conducted by the President of the Gaelic Athletic Association, visiting from Ireland, Aogan O'Fearghail

5:30pm - All Star/Legends Exhibition Match - Leinster/Ulster Vs Munster/Connacht

The sporting side of the weekend is enticing and the icing on the cake will be the musical entertainment being provided nightly.

8pm - The Pearl River School of Irish Music

9pm - Joanie Madden and Cherish the Ladies

Saturday, July 8th:

5pm through to Midnight - The Whistling Donkeys, Kickin' Nash and the Narrowbacks

Sunday, July 9th:

5pm through to Midnight - Girsa, Mickey Coleman, Ireland the Band and Michael O'Sullivan
