New York Hurlers so close to Croke Park glory

Congrats to the New York Native born Hurling team who represented New York GAA at the recent world games at UCD in Dublin. This group of players have developed through the New York Minor board youth program. All of these players are now participating at adult level for their clubs in New York. The team qualified for the final at GAA headquarters where the played an experienced North American County Board(NACB) team where New York came up just short where the lost out

New York Camogie team win shield at UCD

Congrats to the New York Camogie team who won the Camogie shield final at the world games at UCD in Dublin. Despite missing out on the cup final the girls put in a huge effort to win shield. New York Camogie at adult level has been making great developments in recent years and this group of players represented New York extremely well. Well done to all involved

 

New York GAA Senior Hurling Championship Final

Congrats to Tipperary club who won the Senior Hurling Championship defeating Ulster in the Final. Lots of skills and talented hurlers where at Gaelic Park.

In a high scoring game it finished Tipperary 1-24 Ulster 2-20 .  

 

New York GAA Junior A Hurling Championship Final

Ulster edge Waterford in Extra time.

Spectators at Gaelic Park last Sunday witnessed two teams giving it everything to win the Junior A Championship title. Ulster went into the final from a semi final win against Limerick while Waterford qualified through a win over Hoboken in their semi final clash. The Junior A championship has produced some fantastic games this year from all 6 teams and the final did not disappoint. The game started with both teams trading scores, Ulster had a one point advantage with 22 minutes gone in the first half. A very even first half closed with Ulster one point up.

Half Time Waterford 0-07 Ulster 1-05

The second half continued with both teams trading points and with 41 minutes of play Ulster where still leading by A single point (0-10 1-08). The next ten minutes provided some top class and exciting hurling with Ulster getting a second goal while Waterford responded by scoring some well taken points. Going into the last ten minutes it was still a close encounter with Waterford three points down (0-13 - 2-10). This was followed by a Waterford comeback which resulted in the game going to extra time.

Full time - Normal time - Waterford 0-17 Ulster 2-11

The first period of extra time provided spectators with two more goals, one for each team. At the end of First period of extra time it was Waterford 1-19 Ulster 3-15. At the start of the second period of extra time both teams started to tire from an exhausting game of hurling but it was to be Ulster's day as they were crowned champions in what was a thrilling game of Hurling

Belmar summer camp introduction to Hurling

Jersey Shore GAA recently partnered up with local summer camp at Belmar to provide an introduction to Hurling for over 80 children. New York Hurling Development Officer Emmett Conlon introduced the game to all the kids in the beautiful settings of New Jersey. Children enjoyed learning about the game and the basic skills . Jersey Shore show off skills at baseball game

As part of the Lakewood BlueClaws Baseball teams Irish culture night, Jersey Shore Hurling team demonstrated Ireland's National Sport of Hurling prior to the 1st innings. Well done to Jersey shore on a great event.

Liberty Gaels off to national finals in Seattle

Good luck to Liberty Gaels camogie team who will represent New York GAA at the North American championships in Seattle. The girls who are based in New York and New Jersey have a senior and junior team competing and will be hoping to bring home the cup!

 

New York GAA -Youth Hurling Development forum

A huge thanks to clubs who came together to discuss plans for the fall for underage Hurling. Fall will see a first ever structured underage league programme under a blitz format for underage teams , this will result in both a spring and fall hurling season. It is hoped by creating more game opportunities the skills level of all players can continue to improve. Plans have also been put in place with a development squad programme for Hurling starting in late fall.

The Mary Cosgrove Hurling and Camogie 7's

The annual Mary Cosgrove Hurling and Camogie Tournament will take place on Sunday October 2nd in Rockland. The competition is aimed at Junior A + B Hurling Teams and a Camogie Section.

Registration for teams is due by Wednesday September 28th 12pm. A schedule will be available for all teams by Thursday morning.

There is no charge for registration. The competition will be starting at approximately 11AM with Field Set up and on the day team registration from 10AM.

Teams should register as Junior A, Junior B or Camogie .

Junior A division is aimed at resident players in the United States. They can be both Irish and American players.

Junior B Division is aimed at American players or newcomers to the game. It is aimed at new teams, colleges and U18 teams.

In the past clubs from New York GAA and indeed all over America and Canada have participated.
