If circumstances were different, Brian Connor would 'love' to be togging out in the Offaly jersey this year.

But instead he's part of the New York squad that will take to the Gaelic Park field against Roscommon on Sunday for a Connacht SFC quarter-final clash.

The son of All-Ireland winning captain Richie revealed to The Irish Daily Star: "I was in touch with him (Offaly manager Pat Flanagan) at the start of the season but I made it clear I'm out here fore a long time now.

"I said I wouldn't be back this year or the next couple of years. He was very understanding.

"If I did go home, I would obviously love to play with Offaly but I have no plans in going home any time soon.

"I work in a bar in the city. I like the lifestyle out here. I made a decision to stay out here.

"The economy was the real reason why I decided to come out here. I was out of college and in and out of jobs.

"I've loved it out here since then. It wasn't anything to do with the set-up or anything. It was just the way work had gone."
