The Cats were crowned All-Ireland hurling champions for the 36th time yesterday...

1. Colm Callanan (Galway)

Callanan's puck-outs were exemplary in the first-half and there was was nothing he could do about TJ Reid's goal.

2. Paul Murphy (Kilkenny)

Epitomized Kilkenny's no nonsense second-half display as he and his defensive colleagues tightened their grip on the Galway forwards.

3. Joey Holden (Kilkenny)

The victorious captain had his hands full with Joe Canning and Johnny Glynn but didn't let his side down.

4. John Hanbury (Galway)

Didn't cover himself in the glory in the build-up to the Kilkenny goal but recovered from that set-back to put in a decent shift.

5. Padraig Walsh (Kilkenny)

Held Johnny Glynn scoreless and got forward to send over a valuable point.

6. Iarla Tannian (Galway)

Can hold his head high after a fine individual display but that will be of little consolation to the Ardrahan clubman today.

7. Cillian Buckley (Kilkenny)

Looked out of sorts by his high standards in the first-half but made amends with a powerful second-half performance.

8. Michael Fennelly (Kilkenny)

Laid the foundations for the Cats success with a tireless performance around the middle third of the field.

9. David Burke (Galway)

Was the Tribesmen's best performer over the course of the 70 minutes.

10. TJ Reid (Kilkenny)

The Ballyhale Shamrocks ace is a certainty for the Hurler of the Year accolade after top scoring with 1-8.

11. Joe Canning (Galway)

Was very much to the fore during the opening 35 minutes but his influence waned as Galway's challenge petered out after the resumption.

12. Colin Fennelly (Kilkenny)

Made life uncomfortable for his Galway opponents before raising two flags in the closing stages.

13. Conor Whelan (Galway)

The teenager battled gamely and raised two white flags but spurned a couple of goal scoring opportunities.

14. Walter Walsh (Kilkenny)

Created the opening for Reid's goal and sent over two points as the Leinster champions pulled away in the second-half.

15. Eoin Larkin (Kilkenny)

The experienced James Stephens clubman saved his best performance of the year for the final.
