Party is over for Kerry in Boston as they lose an all important game to Galway on a score of 1-19 to 2-15. Kerry had a 2 point lead at the half - 1-11 to 1-9 with a goal in each half for Kerry by Ronan Kennedy and Shane O'Callaghan and Galways first half goal was scored by Seamus Matteno. In a cracking game of football from start to finish it was a most disappointing result for Kerry as they exit the 2015 senior Championship. This game was evenly matched from the throw in and scores came fast and often in the opening 10 minutes of play with 9 white flags raised - 5 for Galway and 4 for Kerry. Emile Mullan, Ronan Kennedy, Shane O'Callaghan and Robby Croft had Kerrys points while Seamus Matteno had all 5 points for Galway four of which were frees. Matteno also had the opening goal of the half to put Galway up by 4 points. Kevin Mulvaney added to Galways lead and Shane O'Callaghan and Seamus Matteno traded points. Then Kerry took the game over with several unanswered scores. Robby Croft had a point which could so easily have been a goal. Croft added another point shortly after while Kerry kept the pressure on Galway and were rewarded with their first goal of the half. It was Shane O'Callaghan who set up Ronan Kennedy for the goal. David Larkin and Kevin Cummins traded points which was a 45 and once again both teams traded points - Ronan Kennedy for Kerry and Jason Campion for Galway. The sides were level at 1-9 each. Kerry added 2 more points before the half one by O'Callaghan and the other by Kennedy. So after 30 minutes of play, the score was 1-11 to 1-9 in a most entertaining game of football.
The second half started with 2 rapid points 1 for each team. Enda Flannagan for Galway and Shane O'Callaghan for Kerry. Kevin Cummings had the sides level with 2 excellent points and Ronan Kennedy edged Kerry ahead and once again Seamus Matteno leveled the game. Both teams traded points O'Callaghan for Kerry and Campion for Galway and what looked like the winner for Kerry when Shane O'Callaghan punched the ball into the Galway net a 3 point lead for the Kingdom but the Tribesmen fought back with 3 points to level once again - one by Kevin Cummings and two by Seamus Matteno. Galway went one up in injury time and O'Callaghan leveled once again. O'Callaghan had a chance to clinch it for Kerry but was under server pressure by the Galway backs and his shot on goal went to the outside of the posts. Galways pressed ahead and Jason Campion scored the winning point. A draw for Kerry would have been no good as they needed to win. So it is the end of the line for the Kingdom. In a season with just a little bit of luck, they could have been up with the leaders as this will wind up being the most open championship in many many years in Boston and it promises to be top class games for the remainder of the season. Man of the match for Kerry was Shane O'Callaghan. Also playing well for Kerry were Ronan Kennedy, Jamie Barry, Laurence Healy, David Larkin and Emile Mullan. Subs that playes Phil O'Sullivan for Joe O'Shea, Pa Wren for Jamie Barry, John Ferguson for Lawrence Healy and Sean Driscoll for Robbie Croft.
