4 goals and 8 points were not enough for Kerry as they lose by a single point to the Wolfe Tones in the 2nd round of the Senior Championship in Boston on a scoreline of Kerry 4-8 Wolfe Tones 2-15. Kerry were well on top in the opening 10 minutes registering 3 points. Ronan Driscoll was fouled and Robbie Croft raised the white flag with a free. David Larkin added a point as he made a long run right through the Tones defense and finished well. Laurence Healy was fouled and Robbie Croft extended the Kerry lead to 0-3 to no score. The Tones lost their center back Sean George after he took a hard hit just 2 minutes into the game. Dan McCabe had the Tones opening point and a minute later Neill Flynn had the ball in the Kerry net. Flynn added a point from the 45 as the Tones took the game to Kerry. Dan McCabe added a 2nd goal and the Tones had a 2-2 to 0-3 lead after 15 minutes. Kerry did respond with a goal by John O'Keefe. Center fielder Danny O'Callaghan added 2 excellent points for the Tones. Barry McShea also raised a white flag for the Tones but Phil O'Sullivan pulled one back for Kerry just before half time to leave the score Wolfe Tones 2-5 Kerry 1-4.
Kerry had a chance of a goal to start the second half but failed to finish. Ciaran Hurley extended the Tones lead to 5 points, Robbie Croft pulled one back for Kerry with a free but Danny O'Callaghan split the posts for the Tones. Kerry hit a purple patch for the next few minutes as David Larkin set up Sean Driscoll and he raised the white flag. Two minutes later Phil O'Sullivan had the ball In the Tones net giving Kerry the lift they needed but O'Callaghan and Niall Flynn pulled 2 points back for the Tones. At the other end Joe O'Shea, Phil O'Sullivan and John O'Keefe bore down on the Tones goalmouth resulting in an own goal. Game on again. Both teams fought hard for the upper hand but the Tones took their scores. Kerry were trying for goals when points would have been the better option. A goal did come for Kerry as Sean O'Driscoll passed to Robbie Croft and he raised the green flag. Both teams landed points at the end and Tones finished up winners by a point. Hard luck for Kerry 2 weeks in a row after losing last week to McAnespies 4-10 to 3-15 and this week 4-8 to 2-15.
The Boston Shamrocks defeated the Connacht ladies in the Orla Benson Cup Final in a very entertaining game, Orla was a member of the Boston Shamrocks.
