Tommy Moran - Gael of the year

October 14, 2014

Tommy Moran, native of Achill, Co. Mayo, Ireland is being honored as this year's Fairfield County, Connecticut "Gael of the year". Tommy is a founding member of St Patrick's Gaelic Football Club of Fairfield County, CT, now in its eleventh year.

Predeceased by his brother Josie, another stalwart of the club, Tommy has devoted an inordinate amount of his time and energy into developing and expanding the club: in particular his work as youth officer for the last five years where he oversaw the club expansion to include girls as well as boys at underage levels; as well as including hurling at the under age levels.

In addition, Tommy is also the current manager of the St Patrick's senior football team. Tommy is very visible in all home and away games, and can be heard, if not seen, performing a variety of functions from mentor and coach to umpire, player and commentator (not to mention water-boy !) Tommy is one of the foremost figures of the NY minor board and is known far and wide for his enthusiasm and love for Gaelic games.

Always the advocate for encouraging young girls and boys in the game, Tommy goes the extra mile (or 45 metres!) to ensure that they are all included and feel valued, and above all enjoy the games. A consummate GAA man, Tommy Moran is overdue this recognition for his tireless and constant support of St Patrick's Gaelic Football Club, and the success of this relatively young but thriving club.

This honor will be bestowed on Tommy at the St Patrick's Gaelic Football Club annual dinner dance on Saturday December 6th, 2014 at the Gaelic American Club in Fairfield, Connecticut.
