Dynamite action in New Haven ©Jerome Quinn

You could say that the New Haven GAA Club was caught between a rock and hard place. They had a 90-yard field suitable only for juveniles and a massive mountain of rock behind the pitch.

The Connecticut club dearly wanted a full-size regulation playing field so… they got lots of dynamite and are currently blasting their way through the rock to create a field of dreams!

"We are blasting through pure blue rock,"explains John Cullinan, President of the Irish American Community Center. "25 thousand cubic yards is coming out and 1500 truckloads will take it all away so we will be left with a regulation size field."

Chairman Mike Faherty, who hails from Galway but has lived his life in New Haven, is confident that the new pitch will ensure a bright future for Gaelic games in the area.

"I love Gaelic Football, I love hurling, I love everything Irish and I'd like to leave a legacy so there's a field for all kids and adults to play here in the future."

More details about fund-raising for the scheme and for enlisting to play for New Haven's new Junior team can be found at www.iaccirishsports.org and by contacting Mike Faherty on New Haven 2036408927.
