Connolly Cup 2014 in Charlotte, North Carolina
July 07, 2014
National champions
Charlotte GAA will hold its prestigious Connolly Cup Tournament on July 19th, 2014. The Charlotte James Connolly's Club has been hosting the Connolly Cup since 2001 with past teams from St. Barnabas in New York, the Cayman Islands, Philadelphia, Orlando, Tennessee, Charleston, DC, Baltimore and Atlanta.
The club is proud to host the largest tournament in the Southeast with teams competing in Ladies' Gaelic Football, Men's Gaelic Football, and Hurling. This year, Connolly Cup is proud to host a youth coaching clinic and game at 3:00pm, before the throw in for finals.
Throw in will be at 11am at The Rugby Athletic Center (3722 S. Tryon Street, Charlotte, NC 28217). Charlotte will be looking to retain their title from last year, as well as being crowned National Champions in September, but surely will meet stiff competition from Raleigh and Atlanta after beating both in the Peach Cup in June, as well as Baltimore and Washington DC. The South East Hurling Championship takes place on the same day, and the competition should host some red hot competitive action with teams from Charleston, Orlando, Greenville, Hampton Roads and Atlanta all in with a chance to take home the silverware. The Charlotte ladies look to strengthen their grip on the trophy they have held in recent successive years, but will not have it easy as teams from Baltimore, DC and Atlanta are not making the trip to make up the numbers. Overall, the Connolly Cup will be a huge stepping stone for all clubs with highly competitive action as they look to qualify for National Championships in September in Boston.
Connolly's Irish Pub will be providing the after game festivities for the GAA players and fans and are proud to welcome everyone including Irish band McLean Avenue from NYC to entertain all Saturday night. It really should be a night not to be missed.
