Niall Sheehy added a 2nd point for Kerry a minute later. JJ Doyle leveled for Galway after 7 minutes. Kerry were struggling for the next 15 minutes as Galway pulled ahead with 3 points in the space of 4 minutes and they should have been further ahead but for 5 wides which were not far off the mark. Kerry were forced to make a few changes and switches. Lee Stacey replaced Kevin McCarthy . Galway were winning most of the breaks in the middle of the field and the Kerry backs were under a lot of pressure with man of the match Aaron Fitzgerald preventing Galway from extending their lead on a number of occasions. Robby Croft showed his skill as a free taker adding 2 late points to keep Kerry in the game as the half time whistle blew. Galway should have been well ahead at half time but the score board read Galway 0-7 Kerry 0-5.
The second half started with a point from Graham Glynn only to be cancelled out right away by Andy Glennon. Robby Croft tapped over a point to leave a point between the sides but once again it was Galway setting the pace. Kerry were forced to make another change - Simon Dunne replaced Derrick Nolan but it was Galway doing most of the attacking. Andy Glennon and Kevin Cummins added points for Galway. Robby Croft sent a bullet that had goal written all over it but it skimmed the crossbar. With 10 minutes remaining in the game it looked like a win for Galway but Kerry upped their game and scored 1-3 without reply from Galway. Joe Fitzpatrick had 2 excellent points, Simon Dunne added another one and then the score of the game a goal by Niall Sheehy had the Kerry supporters cheering in the stands.
