Dermot McArdle tries to keep up with Nicky Joyce (Galway) during the NFL Division 1 game at Salthill
New York's preparations for their Connacht SFC quarter-final against Mayo in May have been boosted by the addition of former Galway forward Nicky Joyce to their squad.
The Killererin man, who won three Connacht SFC medals with the Tribesmen in 2003, 2005 and 2008 and is a first cousin of retired Galway star Padraic Joyce, is currently living in the Big Apple and has linked up with Ian Galvin's men in recent weeks. Ironically, he was part of the Galway team which received a major scare from the Exiles when the teams' met in the 2010 Connacht SFC at Gaelic Park.
New York have also secured the services of Laois' Brendan Quigley, Offaly's Brian Connor, Keith Quinn of Down and Donegal's Ross Wherity as they gear up for the visit of James Horan's charges on May 4. On the minus side, former Westmeath forward Conor Lynam is no longer part of the squad after damaging his knee in a skiing accident.
