Weekend Football result:
Cu Chulainns 0-09
Parnells 0-10
Division Two Football League Final
Eoin Scully at Wormwood Scrubs
Cu Chulainns and Parnells went to battle on Saturday afternoon as the intermediate champions and senior side Parnells faced off in the division two league final.
The two sides proved to be extremely closely matched over the hour but unfortunately for Cu Chulainns a string of wides in both halves proved to be their downfall.
The sides went into half time with the minimum between them as Parnells led 0-4 to 0-3. First half scores form Conor Harrington, Brendan Breen and Ger Byrne left Cu Chulainns in a strong position given their characteristic second half burst. Parnells Scored four frees from Seamus Stenson during the half.
In a similar pattern to the first half, it was end to end stuff in the second period. Yet unlike the first half, Parnells conceded several frees which Fiachra McArdle tapped over. Darren McManus kicked a fine score from play midway through the half to keep the sides level. Parnells had a chance late in the half to seal the win but a shot from their substitute Danny Mc Namara crashed off the bar and went over for a point.
With five minutes remaining, McArdle put Cu Chulainns ahead from play. Parnells needed to see the game out strongly and that's exactly what they did kicking two late points from play to take the trophy and return to division one next year.
Cu Chulainns face yet another decider to finish the season next Saturday where they play Garryowen in a playoff for division one football next year.
