Dulwich Harps club notes

April 24, 2017

On Saturday our men's team travelled to Goodmayes to take on Thomas McCurtains in the third round of the McArdle Cup. Played under perfect conditions, the game started at a high pace and both teams traded early scores with the returning Niall Russell coming up from nets to kick the Blues into an early lead from a '45. Once again the full back line of Walsh, Lynch and Fitzpatrick remained resolute throughout which gave the half back line and midfield a great platform to set up dangerous attacks.

This persistence paid dividends towards the end of the half and points from Lavery, White, Clarke and Higgins helped the Harps open up a small lead going into the half time break with a score line of 0.07 to 0.03.

The Harps started the second half where they left off at the end of the first, and a score from Ciaran Stone and another '45 from Niall Russell helped to keep the score board ticking over. McCurtains had a decent period of dominance half way through the second half when they hit 3 points without reply. However the inclusion of Enda Tuohy soon brought a halt to this brief resurgence as he rattled the back of their net following some free flowing football from the half forward line.

Further points from Dave Draper, Mick Malone, Dan Lynch, Tim Russell as well as double from Lavery and White, seen the Harps close out the game with a score line of 1.15 to 0.09.

Starting XV;

Niall Russell (0-2 (45s'), Damien Fitzpatrick, Dan Lynch, Dara Walsh, Damien Rogers, James McDermott, Sean Og Lavery (0-3), Mickey Clarke (0-1), Dave Draper (0-1), Tim Russell (0-1), Ronan Devlin, Darren White (0-3), Ciaran Stone (0-1), Mick Malone (0-1), Aaron Higgins (0-1).

Subs used;

The club would like to congratulate Niall Russell on being named as captain for the upcoming season as well as Mickey Clarke and Ronan Devlin for being named as vice captains. Well done lads!

The ladies kicked off their season on Sunday when they travelled to Greenford to take on Taras. In what was a very close and competitive game, the ladies unfortunately lost out in the end with a score line of 3.03 to 0.09. As this was the first outing of the season, there are of plenty of positives to take from the game and the management team are confident that they can kick on for the rest of the season.
