Mayobridge club notes

March 22, 2017

Congratulations to the Mayobridge Band who took part in the St. Patrick's Day Festival in London on Sunday 19th March. They were a credit to themselves, their families and the whole Mayobridge community is very proud of them. Well done.

Last wekend Mayobridge and Burren met in the semi-final of the Malachy Murdock Memorial Tournament at Burren and after a well contested game it was the home side who prevailed winning by a three point margin 2-13 to 2-10. With five minutes to go in this game played at Burren the sides were level but then a Mayobridge attempt at a point fell short and the keeper palmed the ball out to a defender and from there the Burren men set up an attack which ended with the ball in the back of the 'Bridge net. The 'Bridge did hit back with a '45 from Shane Smyth but a converted free two minutes into injury time sealed the victory. At half-time the scores were level at five points apiece but despite two second half goals from Rory Hughes and Ryan Brady it was the home side that advanced to the final.
Mayobridge team and scorers: Shealan Strain, Conor Ftzpatrick, Shane McNamee, Cormac Linden, Ryan Brady (1-0), Miceal Lively, Seamus Grant, Jamie Barr, Cathal Killen, Caolan Gallagher, Conleth O'Hare, Shane Smyth (0-3), Rory Hughes (1-0), Cathal Magee (0-6), Conal Poland.
Subs: Conaill Gallagher (0-1), Reece Martin.

The U12 footballers started of their league last week with games against Clonduff in South Down Division One and Saval in Division Two.

In Division One the boys were unfortunate to go down by a single point in a very tough game with Clonduff on a scoreline of 2-7 to 1-9. In very wet and heavy conditions the boys put in some hard work but a couple of poor decisions at times just cost the lads a couple of scores. A lot to build on for the season ahead in what will be a very competitive league.

Team: Shan Hillen, Daniel McMahon, Michael Gallagher (0-1), Senan Magone, Paddy Clyde (0-1), Patrick Woods (0-3), Arran Trotter, Brian Grant (Capt.0-3), Danny Cunningham, Conor Colhoun (1-1), Peter Little.

The Division Two team put in a terrific performance against the Saval first team. This is going to be a difficult year for these boys with the team made up of 5 or 6 U-10s. The lads had a terrific first half and went in 0-3 apiece at the interval. The lads just run out of steam in the 2nd half and Saval kicked some good scores to finish strongly. Terrific effort boys.

Team: Darragh Poland, Conor McCrory (Capt.), Pierce Cuthbert, Ben Kelly, Conor Keenan, Daire O'Keeffe, Cormac Ryan, Conor Rocks, Callum Hillen, Cory Magone, Senan O'Reilly.
Subs Oliver De Rose, Darragh Magee.
