Tara beat Wolfe tones of Liverpool  in second round of the Camogie championship

Both teams met halfway in Birmingham to play the 2nd round of the Britain Camogie championship. It was a very tough game and well fought by both sides. Tara were first to get on the score board with a point from wing forward Roisin o Grady. Two consecutive points from Tara centre forward Lucy Hawkes put the Londoners up by 3 after 10 minutes. Despite some great defensive play from the Tara girls, Wolfe Tones got their first point after 12 minutes. The girls from Liverpool fought hard in defence but Tara got their first goal in the 15th minute when full forward Eimear Healy blasted a ball from the 20 yard line. This spurred on the Londoners and points from Anna Nyhan and Mary Fenton meant the Tara girls lead at the break on a score line of 1-5 to 1 point.

The second half couldn't have started any better for the Tara girls with a goal and a point from Hawkes at Centre forward.  The Wolfe Tones scored a point from a free in the 40th minute but this was to be last time they would score. There was some fantastic score by the Tara girls in the last fifteen mins, most notably Caroline Kelly, Joanne Hamilton and Hawkes and O Grady continued their fantastic form from the first half. The final score was 3-11 to 2 points in what was a well fought game by both sides in searing heat.

This puts the Londoners in a good position going into the 3rd round of the championship where they meet old rivals Croydon on the  5th of September in Greenford.

Tara are welcoming new players at both junior and senior level. Please contact Emer Kelly on 07481 555 998 if you are interested in playing.
