St Brendan's Manchester club notes

June 30, 2015

St. Brendan's would like to offer our condolences to Lancashire PRO and St. Lawrence's Chairman Jimmy Wray who sadly lost his mother due to a short illness.  And also to the Noone family and Oisin's who sadly lost their former player and member Brian Noone.  We remember them in our prayers this week.
The club's inaugural 7's tournament was won by Sean Mc Dermott's from Birmingham who beat Oisin's from Manchester in the final.  Thanks to all organisers who helped and supported the club on the day.  Also, we thank the travelling teams and referees who all contributed to make the tournament a huge success.
Thanks to the players who got involved in supporting and playing for Lancashire in recent weeks.  Sadly, the team were beaten in the quarter final by Scotland; the final score was 0-14 to 0-12.  Congratulations to winners Kilkenny who beat Scotland in the AB final in Edinburgh yesterday.  Final score was 2-07 to 0-08.
The junior team have remained in good form in the junior league picking up 2 wins against Oisin's (4-10 to 2-14) and St. Lawrence's (3-08 to 0-06) in recent weeks.   The lads were also awarded a walkover against St. Pat's from Chester.  Next up is the Wolfe Tone's on Wednesday evening at Wavertree.
The senior team were beaten by Peter's in the senior league on 25th June.  A slow start and soft goal before half time gave Peter's the advantage.  The lads fought back in the second half and got within 4 points but a late flurry of points and a late penalty from Desi O' Malley ensured a Peter's victory.  Finals score was 2-14 1-10.
The senior team played Oisin's on 27th June at Trafford.  The lads got off to a better start and led by 5 points at half time.  But Oisin's managed to hit 7 points in the second half whilst Brendan's only managed 2 to make the game a draw.  Despite dominating the 2nd half, Brendan's failed to convert a whole host of chances.  Oisin's found the equaliser in injury time.  There were plenty of positives to take from that game including; a superb team performance and a confident display dominating long periods in the game. Final score 1-09 to 0-12 points
