St Clarets GFC London club notes

April 27, 2015

St Clarets 1-10 Eire Og 2-06

St Clarets emerged victorious by just a single point in an exciting McArdle Cup semi-final contest. St Clarets, playing with the aid of the breeze led 5 points to 1 at the break following a late free kicked by Ryan O'Connell on the stroke of half time.

From the restart Eire Og showed their intent immediately with a well taken point to narrow the gap to three points. The next 20 minutes were evenly contested with score for score being traded between the teams.

A goal and a point in quick succession pushed the Hayes men further ahead but Eire Og of North London came roaring back with two goals. The first came from a well dispatched re-taken penalty with the second arriving on the call of full time to leave the minimum between teams.

St Clarets now advance to meet Thomas McCurtains in the McArdle Cup final.

We play Eire Og again next Saturday in round one of the preliminary championship. The game is down for 5pm at Downhills Park, Haringey.

A huge thank you to our fantastically committed squad of players. 27 togged out with injured squad members Darren Mallon and Barry 'stress fracture' Lynch also in attendance. Great to see the strong numbers at games.

Renewed thanks also to our fantastic support who continue to come out week after week and cheer on the lads in great numbers. Once again, it is massively appreciated by the whole squad.

Let's keep up the good work and support as we head into the coming weeks.

Some of our youth teams also kicked off their campaigns over the weekend

U14s League - St Clarets were defeated by Parnells in the first game of the season in Northwick Park on Thursday evening.   Although the result was against us the lads gave a fantastic performance in the second half of the game which gives us great encouragement for our up and coming fixtures.   Thanks to the players and parents for coming out for a midweek fixture.  The players were:  Michael Myers, Milo McNulty, Joseph Devereux, Joey Holden, Michael O'Shea, Szymon Reddin, Cormac Sibley, Jack Do Rosario, Oisin Murphy, Kyle King, Callum Monaghan, Aaron Myers, Liam Hession, Jack Kiernan, Alvin Maher (Capt), Reece Connolly.

U10s Parnells Blitz - On Saturday our youngest members of the club took to the field, some for the very first time, at the Parnells Blitz in Northwick Park.   They played 3 games and won 1.
It was great to see these young players putting on the Clarets jersey and playing in the Clarets spirit.  Thanks to all the players and parents for taking the time out on Saturday afternoon.  The players were:  Roisin Thornton, Adam Higgins, Matthew Keane, Cassidy Cripps, Emma Ray Hedger, Keir Alexander and Finn Murphy.
