Hertfordshire Fr. O' Hanlon Cup 2015

The Hertfordshire football threw in last Sunday with the Fr. O' Hanlon Cup Blitz Day at Cotlandswick in St. Albans. All six clubs were vying for glory on the day, Cambridge Parnells, St Joseph's (Waltham Cross), St Colmcilles (St. Albans), St Dympnas (Luton), Éire Óg (Oxford) & Glen Rovers (Watford).

After some the group stages Saint Joseph's and Saint Dympnas meet in the first semi final and after a competitive game Dympnas came out on top and marched on to the final. In the second semi final Glen Rovers and Saint Colmcilles got acquainted with each other in what was a tight game Rovers claimed a spot in the final.

The final was won by a strong Saint Dympnas team who were well prepared and worthy of their victory over the course of the day.

The county league starts after Easter on Saturday 11th April with a game between St. Dympnas and St. Colmcilles in Sundon Park at 17:00. These teams met in two cup finals last year, with the Luton men emerging victorious in both, so a tough, competitive clash is expected. The next day sees a re-run of last year's championship final, as Glen Rovers make the short trip up the M40 to play Éire Óg in Horspath at 14:00. Whilst no trophies can be won on the day, the Glen Rovers men will surely be seeking a modicum of revenge for last final defeat. St. Josephs make the trip to Cambridge for the third game of the weekend, also a 14:00 throw-in.

The draw for this year's championship has thrown up two tough groups.  In Group A, Cambridge Parnells, St Dympnas and Éire Óg will battle it out in July for two semi-final places. Group B contains the old rivals Glen Rovers and St. Colmcilles alongside St Joseph's.  Remarkably, the same teams were drawn against each other for the John Wallace Cup draw; some variety was achieved in the draw for the Cahill & Hurley Cup where St. Josephs take on Éire Óg and St. Colmcilles in Group A, and Group B has Glen Rovers, Cambridge Parnells and St. Dympnas.
